Q. An explosion
breaks a rock into three parts in a horizontal plane. Two of them go off at
right angles to each other. The first part of mass 1kg moves with a speed of 12ms−1 and the second part of mass 2kg moves with 8ms−1 speed. If the third part files
off with 4ms−1 speed, then its mass is :
Neet 2013 nlm & frctn q 3 till now you must have seen two hints videos related to this problem
where i told you that first thing we will need is its diagram according to info given and required
assumption, second thing is to apply momentum conservation . Finally we have to write
momentum of each individual particles , even for the third particle while keeping in mind that only
its speed is given , not its velocity. So we need to take modulus on both sides and velocity of third
particle will automatically converted to speed i.e given data.
