AIPMT/NEET 2008| W.P.E Q 2 | As explosion took place , both shell and gun will move, according to law of conservation of Momentum.( the linear momentum of a system remains constant (in magnitude and direction), if the external forces acting on the system add up to zero). But Momentum of both will be equal and opposite . Total energy of explosion will be shared by both the gun and the shell according to their masses.
