An engine pumps water through a hose pipe. water passes through the pipe...

Q.An engine pumps water through a hose pipe. water passes through the pipe & leaves it with a velocity of 2 m/s. the mass per unit length of water in the pipe is 100 kg/m. what is the power of the engine?
AIPMT/NEET 2010 | W.P.E Q 2 | We had seen similar  type of qus in year 2009 ( just one year ago )where it  requires our ability of converting any known formula, in terms of given variables . For ex. Here we need to convert kinetic energy per unit time in terms of given mass per unit length and velocity . For that we will divide mass by time in the formula of kinetic energy per unit time and then we will put value of this mass as a product of mass per unit length and length. As we know length per unit time is velocity so finally we will get the  power equals to  mv3 where m is mass per unit length because half of its power will be used in increasing the velocity of water from 0 to 2 m/s and remaining half will be lost in heat , vibrations( just like charging of capacitor ). What more you can ask for. This is the benefit of attempting old qus . Now you just need to put the values in the formula.
